Destination Italy wedding ideas :

how to make your Italian wedding unique and unforgettable…

With intimacy, romance and settings so beautiful the reality is even more exquisite than Pinterest, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast have oh-so many charms. Each winding street oozes character, the air fills with an atmospheric buzz and the sun sparkles on the surface of the azure sea. This gorgeous corner of the Italian coastline promises to wine, dine and fill you with wonder, and as a destination wedding planner at Sophisticated Weddings, creating bespoke celebrations right here, I wanted to share with you some ideas on how to make your Italian destination wedding even more unique and unforgettable.

Invitations

Your wedding invitations set the tone of what is to come and so you need to consider the impact of your chosen invitation and how it makes you envision the wedding day. A high-end, luxury celebration should have an invitation to match. If you receive a beautifully designed wedding invitation then you are undoubtedly going to be excited for the wedding to come. Consider your invitations as a reflection of you as a couple and work with a professional stationery designer that can craft a design that is unique to you as a couple and something that also incorporates the location in which you have chosen to marry.

These beautiful invitations for a Ravello wedding were created by the wonderfully talented Kathleen Ostrom of Leen Jean Studios. Check out our blog post with Kathleen and read more about her work here

Pizza & Peroni - welcome party

With many couples having guests that travel to their wedding from all over the world, a welcome party is a great way of uniting people that may not know each other and a great opportunity to have a fun and informal celebration before the wedding day. It’s also a chance to embrace a very important part of Italian life and something we all love very much … pizza! (Just don’t mention pineapple on pizza!!!)

Pizza parties for smaller groups can even include a ‘pizza making’ experience where guests can get ‘hands on’ and be involved in the making too, but this becomes a little more complicated with larger groups. Either way, there is nothing that compares to a freshly baked pizza cooked on the spot in a traditional Neapolitan pizza stove, washed down with Peronis or prosecco for the ladies.

Wedding favours - personalised limoncello

A typical Italian touch, it is always nice to gift your guests with a favour (favor for our US clients) on the table as a thank you for attending the wedding. We love these personalised bottles of limoncello which also act as a lovely keepsake of the day too. Maybe best combined with a little ‘hangover kit’ too as limoncello is quite strong! For those of you with a little extra budget (and perhaps a smaller guest list) we love the idea of authentic Italian welcome bags for your guests too, filled with local biscuits, wine and candies.

Wedding Car - Fiat 500

Add some more Italian vintage charm and style to your wedding day with a classic wedding car. There is no better choice than the iconic Fiat 500, a true symbol of Italy and undoubtedly the perfect accessory for your destination wedding. It may be a little bit of a squeeze but we’re sure you’ll agree that it’s so worth it for those dreamy wedding photos.

Family fun

It’s always nice to have a family experience together too, usually post wedding so you still have something to look forward to when the big day is over. After everything that we have lived through since the pandemic struck, I think we can all agree that making memories is more important than ever. How about a day out on a luxury boat to Capri with the chance to stop off for swimming and snorkelling on the way? Or a mozzarella making experience? Not forgetting that the Campania region is home to some of the finest wines… so how about a wine tasting experience with vineyard tour? We have so many suggestions to ensure we find the perfect fit, for the adventurous and not-as adventurous amongst you.

I hope that this has offered some inspiration and reminded you why a wedding in Italy is such a great idea!
