you’ve no doubt been thinking about how to style your hair for your wedding day for some time. hair up or down? how will my hair complement my dress? is it me? so many photos on pinterest and Instagram will probably make you even more confused about what will work for you.

We had the pleasure of chatting to top Amalfi Coast hair stylist Piero Mansi and he’s written eight of his top tips to all of you destination Italy brides-to-be. Piero has styled hundreds of brides and ensured that they were ready for their most special day literally without a hair out of place!

here are piero’s eight top tips for perfect bridal hair …

one

With destination weddings, your hairstylist is probably not going to be your regular hairdresser. That means your hair trial/wedding day will be the first time they get to know/style your hair. As you 'wear' your hair everyday and are therefore a good judge on what works and has worked in the past, don't be shy to let discuss this with them. Also let them know if you are allergic to any hair products or brands used in the past.

two

Send photos of the style that you would like prior to your trial/booking day. Include a photo of yourself showing your hair type, length and thickness so that style options, possible concerns and solutions can be dicussed in advance and there are no surprises on the day.

three

When looking at the different style options, try and find a style example similar to your hair type and colour. Different styles (e.g braids/plaits, beach waves) can look very different on light vs dark, thick vs thin hair.

four

Keep in mind that weddings can run all day and into the late evening with various movements/locations through out the day. (It's not comparable to a style in a still photoshoot). Look for a style that will offer you maximum 'styled' hours, or ask your stylist if they offer retouch services later into the event.

five

As well as your hair type and face shape you also need to consider your dress and veil when choosing your desired style. Examples– backless dresses, or dresses with high detailed backs deserve not to be covered by long flowing locks. Long cathedral veils are heavy and need to be securely pinned, so consider a style that can incorporate backcombing or pinning.

six

If using extensions on the day, use them at least once prior. This will give you and idea of their quality, how well they match your hair and also how well they style. (Lower quality extensions don't always style/hold as well)

seven

If you are looking for a soft, hair down style (waves, curls, loose up dos) consider having a back up style option in case of rain/wind/humidity.

eight

Avoid using excessive amounts of conditioner and oils prior to your big day. Over use of these products can make your hair heavy or easily dirty when styling.
